Freezing Pipes

23-12-2011
With the cold winter months upon us, care should be taken to protect pipes from freezing. Frozen pipes expand and can damage pipes and fittings, which result in leaks and pipe bursts.
The most common is the outside tap. These should be turned off inside and water in the exposes pipes allowed to drain. If there is no water there is no freezing.
When you insulate your loft to stop heat loss always remember the pipes as well as these can be exposed to the freezing conditions. These come in various pipe sizes and thickness for different situations. As some of the cheap pipe insulation is designed for heat loss and not protection again freezing.
